Suggestions for Tile Surface Maintenance and Care

Read over Hogan Flooring's expert advice on caring for your tile flooring and surfaces, ensuring they stay beautiful and durable for years. Learn more about each type of tile material:

  • Porcelain Tile: Made from a mixture of clay, sand, and feldspar, fired at high temperatures. Dense, hard, and durable. Resistant to water, stains, and scratches. Do not absorb more than 0.5% of their weight.
  • Ceramic Tile: Thin slab of clay, water, and other materials fired in a kiln to create a durable, water-resistant surface. Best for low-traffic areas. Typically more cost-effective than porcelain.
  • Natural Stone: Made from natural materials quarried from earth and cut into tiles. Limestone, marble, and slate can be more prone to staining and water absorption, therefore they require more upkeep than ceramic or porcelain.
  • Alterna: Luxury vinyl tile that looks and feels like stone and ceramic. Durable, waterproof, and easy to clean. Surface made of aluminum oxide, which is nearly as hard as diamond. Warm to the touch and more comfortable than ceramic tile. Can be installed with a butted joint fit or with spacing and grout.
